JUNE 2019 SIGHTINGS

Roger Amery on 6/23 reported via e-mail: On Saturday at about 11 AM, I observed a wood thrush along with a wood thrush nestling that had escaped the nest at Les Arends F.P. in the same area there were olive sided flycatchers, a prothonotary warbler. Elsewhere in the same park, there were eastern Phoebes and Baltimore Orioles .

Bill Ahlgren on 6/14 reported via e-mail: Following up on Jon's early morning report of an Upland Sandpiper at Sauer Prairie Kame FP, I had to run out there and found 1 along Lasher Rd. I looked on 6/11/19 to no avail, but was able to find it today.

Diane Hansen on 6/10 reported via e-mail: Early Monday morning I drove through Burnidge for yet another attempt to find the Mute Swan family.  Finally I succeeded.

At first they were feeding in the reeds close to the area of the nest but after a while they went out into the open water where I was able to get a good photo of the whole family.

One of the 6 cygnets is hard so see but they are all there.

Beth Harling on 6/10 reported via e-mail: I saw a male Pileated Woodpecker at Bliss Woods gathering bugs from dead wood on the ground and flying it up to a fledgling juvenile multiple times. This was 6/9 Sunday morning at 9am, in the trees on the north side of the parking lot. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a camera with me.  First time I’ve managed to spot Pileateds in the Northern Illinois area in my 30 years of birding!

Walt Lutz on 6/8 reported via e-mail: Found this Wood Thrush this morning at Burnidge Forest Preserve.
